Team KAAT Cycle Cuba

As part of Kent Air Ambulance Trust’s 20th Anniversary year, which gets underway on December 23rd 2009 – the date of the life saving charity’s very first airlift in 1989, the trust has decided to give people the chance to cycle around the Caribbean’s largest island of Cuba. The cyclists will raise funds for the charity in the process.

Seven members of staff at the trust have signed up for the challenge of a life time – cycling 350 kilometres over 5 days from the Bay of Pigs, famed for the US aggression on Cuba in 1961, through towns and villages to Trinidad, a World Heritage Site, before finishing the ride in the Bay of Cienfuegos, a stunning colonial bay with panoramic views.

The team:   Beverley “Tally Ho” Thorne – Head of Charity Services   Lynn “Leggy” Hyder – Kent County Fundraiser   Gary “Biscuit” Balderstone – Critical Care Paramedic   Caroline “Super” Cooper – Events Coordinator   Antony “Penfold” Masters – Press Officer   Dave “Oooh Byker” Marshall – Critical Care Paramedic  Kevin “The Captain” Goddard – Air Ambulance Pilot

The team are hoping to raise £20,000 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary Year of the charity.

Cycle for Life Ball

Well what can I say about the Ball apart from what a fantastic night; great food, great company, great entertainment and a great venue.

The evening started with all guests being greeted with a red carpet and a chilled glass of bucks fizz.  Shortly after we were called into the dining area; the table service was exemplary with the plates being synchronously placed in front of diners.  During the meal a table magician worked little miracles, including passing a wine bottle through an apparently solid table!

The auction was very well supported, with the auctioneer skillfully working the competitive nature of his diners.  The star item was a pair of Top Gear tickets that sold for £680!

The evening was rounded off with music from a local band playing a range of slow songs to the more up beat for the jivers amongst us.  There were many calls for a Summer Ball, so watch this space.

Finally, a huge thanks go to the 'girls' for organising the event.
