Anne and John Nicholls celebrating at the Surrey Air Ambulance Base at Dunsfold Park

The Air Ambulance Superdraw has generated enough money for the charity, to enable its medical crew to save an estimated 100 lives since it started 2 years ago.

Anne Nicholls from Epsom in Surrey is the latest winner to pick up a jackpot of £25,000. Anne, her husband John and their daughter Liz collected the win from the Air Ambulance’s Surrey base at Dunsfold near Cranleigh. They were given a tour of the helicopter and met the HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) crew, who carry out the life saving missions.

The 73 year old, who is the secretary of the local Women’s Institute group in Epsom, is a keen supporter of charities and she regularly gives to causes that help dogs, horses and children.

Anne, who has three daughters and nine grandchildren, is planning on giving her family a Christmas to remember. She also has other plans, but admits she is cautious with her money.

Air Ambulance Superdraw winner, Anne Nicholls said “I’m not going to rush in to an impulsive spend, maybe a nice holiday. I’m still in shock about the win, it’s incredible, but it’s certainly come at the right time with Christmas just creeping up on us. I signed up to the Air Ambulance lottery after we had a guest speaker come in to our Women’s Institute meeting about four years ago. The Surrey Air Ambulance is such a fabulous cause - it’s amazing that it’s funded by donations. I urge others to help out.”

The Superdraw was launched in October 2007 when the gambling commission relaxed its rules on the top prizes for charity lotteries. Tickets for the Superdraw are just £1 a week but to be in with a chance of winning, you have to be a member of the Air Ambulance membership based weekly lottery.

Lottery Manager, Lynne Mitchell said “Anne’s win is fantastic and once again leaves one of our supports with a big smile on their face. For Anne personally it’s a moment to remember, but we also love occasions where as a charity we can change somebody’s life. Anne now has a reason to have a great Christmas, but from a life saving perspective people like Anne and the many others who are members of our lottery all contribute in such a vital way that allows our medical team of doctors and paramedics to carry out their life-saving work. Since the Superdraw began, it’s generated enough funding for the charity to save an estimated 100 lives. We couldn’t do it without those generous people who support our lottery.”
